I'm surprised to hear mourning for the queen, from friends and family. Never been much a fan of the famous, sorry, unless the fame was earned, like I dunno... Martin Luther King? Elton John? Ken Griffey Jr?
I've heard of far worse royalty than the departed queen, but that's faint praise.
Five things that must be said, about the passing of QE2:
①
Ruling by heredity is a stupid, primitive political system.
②
If you live your whole life without ever being treated unfairly by your boss, or wondering how you'll pay next month's rent, or wishing you could buy a more reliable car, you've lived a very easy life.
Why should people who've never had such advantages — you and me — look up to someone who had all the advantages it's possible to have, from the day she was born until the day she died?
③
I'm unaware of any time she used her fame or fortune to take a bold stand for truth, justice, equality, the sane stewardship of Planet Earth, or any other issue we should all care about.
④
She was Queen of England longer than I've been alive, and in that time never scrambled two eggs, since she had servants to do such things.
⑤
We fought and won a war so Elizabeth wouldn't be our queen.
