Let's talk about Trump

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

If you voted for Donald Trump in 2016, I can understand it. Back then he was famous mostly as that billionaire on TV's The Apprentice.

But that was eight years ago. America has gotten to know Trump quite well since then, and if you're voting for him in 2024, I don't understand it at all.

It's not even about Trump's politics. The man is simply bonkers.

He lies constantly.

Despite being born rich, having butlers, living at a swanky resort, etc, he never stops complaining that he's treated unfairly.

He's always angry over some perceived slight. He makes headlines every day, by insulting someone or saying something cruel. The only thing that changes is who he's angry at, and who he's insulting.

America should not be run by a man who's always angry.

Even his red-hatted motto, "Make America Great Again," is bizarre and anti-patriotic, with its built-in assumption that America isn't great now.

Some say Trump is 'weird', but that's putting it mildly. He is the dumbest, meanest, most un-Christian president America has ever had, and the first to try thwarting the peaceful transfer of power.

And I've never seen him offer anyone a moment of human kindness. → See the photos?

I've never heard of Trump saying "I'm sorry" to anyone, for anything. Have you?

I have never seen him laugh.

Something is seriously wrong in Donald Trump's angry head. He is mentally and emotionally unstable, and unfit to be president.

STANDING INVITATIONS:

Anyone wanna play chess online? It's easy — make a move once daily, once weekly, or whenever you get around to it. It helps prevent brain calcification. (Don't know chess? It's pretty easy & I'll teach.) If you're interested, let me know.

Board games, at your place: Chess, Monopoly, Parcheesi, Rummikub, Scrabble, or whatever. I'll bring diet soda and maybe snacks, but you gotta provide the game.

FIELD TRIPS

My next few mini-adventures are listed below, and anyone who knows me or wants to is mighty invited to come along.

Or maybe you have a better idea for something to do? Either way, drop me a text or an email and we'll make plans.

"Trash Talking" at Mini Mart City Park
6525 Ellis Ave South, Georgetown
Noon • Wednesday, August 14

This is an art show in a former gas station, featuring "life-size replicas of politically-charged objects made from recyclables by toy sculptor Michael Leavitt."

Sounds ludicrous to me, but in a good way.

Woodland Park Zoo
5500 Phinney Avenue North, Seattle
Not sure when I'm going, but soon,
on a day when it's not too hot.

I haven't been to Woodland Park since the 1980s. Wonder if they still have the little plastic "zoo keys"?

"The monkeys stand for honesty. Giraffes are insincere, and the elephants are kindly but they're dumb. Orangutans are skeptical of changes in their cages, and the zookeeper is very fond of rum."
            —Simon & Garfunkel

With a senior citizens' gold card, zoo admission is 75% off, which works out to just $6 or $7, depending on the day.

UFO Northwest
at Kent Senior Center
600 East Smith Street, Kent
1PM • Wednesday, August 21

Some 'expert' is going to lecture about the history and truth or falseness of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

"Relying on the FBI records, this talk exposes a Washington story that shapes our current UFO narratives, from 1950’s pulp magazines to the ubiquitous X-Files and Men in Black film franchises."

Color me skeptical about spacemen, but it's free.

Renton History Museum
235 Mill Avenue South, Renton
10AM • Friday, August 23

(Optional: Meet me for breakfast before, at Tommy's Cafe, 74 Rainier Ave S, Renton. 8:15 AM.)

Did you know that Renton was named after Captain William Renton (1818-1891), who ran a sawmill and owned a ship?

That's everything I know about the history of Renton, and I grew up there so I ought to know more.

The city's official museum is free, and open Wednesdays-Fridays, but with this caveat: "Due to a shortage of staff, we recommend calling ahead before your visit to confirm that the Museum is open."

Volunteer Park
1247 15th Avenue East, Capitol Hill
Probably during the last week of August,
on a day when it's not too hot.

Maybe we'll have a picnic, or toss a frisbee. Maybe I'll have enough strength in my old legs to climb the water tower, like when I was a kid. (Probably not.)

  THE BASICS:

Please RSVP so I know you're coming. All events are 'Dutch treat'. Please remember that I'm a weirdo.

Everything on this page is a zero-pressure invitation. I'd love to see you, but if you can't make it my feelings won't be hurt.

If you're unsure about something because you've never done it before, that's kinda the point. "Try it, you'll like it!"
