Let's go to Andy's Diner!

October 9-17, 2024

Someone said to me, Douggles, do you really do all these things?

The answer is, I think about doing all these things, but unless someone says they're coming along, whether I do it or don't depends on my mood and muscle aches on any particular morning.

But if you want to do something with me, I'll definitely be there for anything on this page.

 • Please RSVP by the day before.
 • All events are 'Dutch treat'.
 • Please remember the basics of Doug
 • And don't forget the standing invitations

Mendelssohn & Piazzolla
at Downtown Seattle Public Library
Wednesday, October 9

It's a trio of piano, violin, and cello, about an hour of culture and classical music, and it's free. No mosh pit.

From experience at events like this, I recommend bringing a seat cushion.

Seattle Pinball Museum
508 Maynard Avenue South, International District
Thursday, October 10

Pinball, it's said, is the only sport for true athletes. Here's an old-fashioned pinball arcade, with machines dating back to the 1960s.

Admission: $23, or $20 for seniors. Comes with unlimited pinball play at no additional charge, and in-and-out privileges, so we can go to lunch and come back and play more pinball.

Cheap Eats: Egghole
229 Washington Avenue North, Kent
Friday, October 11

"At our breakfast and lunch haven, we don't just serve egg sandwiches; we deliver an egg-stravaganza of delights that make every meal a moment to savor."

Open Mic Night at the Auburn Library
1102 Auburn Way South, Auburn
Saturday, October 12

"Hosted by Mateo Acuña, the City of Auburn Poet Laureate. Share a short story, essay, poem, song or any other original creative work! Perform in a safe, supportive environment or come to listen and support your community."

For any library event, a seat cushion is a good idea.

Carrie at Northwest Film Forum
1515 12th Avenue, Capitol Hill
Sunday, October 13

"If you've got a taste for terror... take Carrie to the prom." Bwa-ha-ha!

Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, and Amy Irving star in Brian De Palma's fine adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel.

Tickets: $14, or $10 for seniors.

Cheap EatsOrient Express
2963 4th Avenue South, SoDo
Monday, October 14

When we were kids, Mom & Dad sometimes went to Andy's Diner, the restaurant inside railroad cars. It was expensive, so Grandma C would take the kids for cheap hamburgers instead.

Andy's Diner is gone, but it's still a railroad car restaurant, now called the Orient Express. It's not too expensive, and we're no longer banished to cheap hamburgerland, so let's have lunch at the Orient Express, and hope we're not murdered by Agatha Christie!

"We are committed to serving the community with quality Chinese cuisine, offering a variety of dishes to satisfy any craving."

UFO Northwest at Redmond Library
15990 NE 85th Street, Redmond
Wednesday, October 16

Some 'expert' is going to lecture about the history and truth or falseness of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

"Relying on the FBI records, this talk exposes a Washington story that shapes our current UFO narratives, from 1950’s pulp magazines to the ubiquitous X-Files and Men in Black film franchises."

Color me skeptical about spacemen, but it's free.

This invitation might sound familiar — it was on the list a while back, but catastrophic bus luck kept me away. This time I'll be there, for sure!

Seat cushions recommended.
