Kindness, freedom, and reality

 October 29 - November 7, 2024

With an election looming, here's my three cents on politics:

First, be kind to people. If you can't be kind, at least don't be mean.

Second, freedom means people will do things you wouldn't do. It's none of your business, long as they're not hurting anyone.

And third, reality is real. Any discussion of the issues must be factual, not fictional.

For me, nothing trumps kindness, freedom, and reality — not money, not taxes, and certainly not fear, hatred, or anger.

Here are my plans for the next week or so. As always, anyone who knows me or wants to is very invited to anything on the list that sounds interesting.

 • Please RSVP by the day before.
 • All events are 'Dutch treat'.
 • Please remember the basics of Doug
 • And don't forget the standing invitations

Cheap eats!

Sadly, I didn't make it to Fat's Chicken & Waffles last week, but it's only a brief delay. Your chicken and waffles will be ready soon.

Red Mill Burgers has the best hamburgers in town, or so some people say. I'm skeptical, and will decide for myself.

And I gotta try Royal Detail and Cafe, where they offer "the ultimate convenience of getting your car detailed and washed while enjoying authentic Somali cuisine all in one location."

I don't have a car, so maybe they can detail my backpack.

Fresssssh! and Please Touch! at King Street Station
Soon!

Free art, in the balconies over the train station. Sorry, nothing could be cooler than that, except grabbing some authentic Asian barbecue in Chinatown afterwards.

Pike Place Market
Soon!

The Market isn't only for tourists, you know. Let's see the Giant Shoe Museum, Golden Age Collectibles, and Pike Place Nuts (may contain nuts), and then grab some fresh-baked crumpets to bring home.

One thing I've never done at the Market is eat a meal — it's a bit pricey — but you only live once so maybe we'll eat at the Albini Room, or Jack's Seafood Bar, or Three Girls Bakery.

Breakfast at Little Pat's
13611 Ambaum Blvd SW, Burien
Friday, November 1

We dine in splendor twice monthly, dutch treat, no credit cards, and no tuba-playing please. I recommend the chicken-fried steak.

Then we visit Helen afterwards!

Diwali: Lights of India at Seattle Center
Saturday, November 2

Don't be a cowboy, be an Indian! Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year, a festival of lights... and it's free for the twinkling!

There'll be a new post on Douggles.com
Tuesday, November 5 — and every Tuesday

Bookmark it!
    Read it!
Print it, frame it, and hang it on the wall!

String Recital
Edmonds College, 20310 68th Ave W, Lynnwood
Tuesday, November 5

"Come out and watch Edmonds College's spectacular Music Dept. Faculty ... perform anything and everything from classical to jazz," on strings!

It's free, with a "suggested donation" of ten bucks. Which ain't much to ask, assuming the fiddling is nice.
